A festive fanatic who decorates his home with thousands of lights created his biggest display yet – as a tribute to his late partner for Christmas.
Paul Bibby, 59, has decorated his home in Chelmsford, Essex, with a stunning Christmas light display for the past 18 years.
It connects over 30,000 lights with 70,000 bulbs, as well as large festive inflatable figures, including a snowman and Santa Claus.
Paul lost his partner Lynda Cummings, 61, this October – and Lynda had loved the beautiful celebrations from Paul’s decorations.
So this year, Paul’s biggest show is dedicated to Lynda, who passed away suddenly due to heart problems.
Paul has been thinking about doing this for the last year, so he’s determined to make it the best yet – despite the $400 electricity bill.
To show his love for Lynda, he has put up a sign that reads “My lights are dedicated to Lynda.”
Paul said: “I had half the lights on when Lynda passed away and I didn’t know whether to keep them on or take them down. I thought – you’ve started this so you have to finish it. Lynda was a fan of big string of lights – and before she got sick she would fill our house with decorations,” adding that “she liked us to do it right.”
“So to Linda, my lights this year are the best. Every year I tell myself that I can’t do better, but every year I manage to improve again!” Paul said. “I have some new raindrops that look great. I’ve got more lights plugged in than ever – more bloody plugs I have to switch on every day!” he added.
Paul started the tradition in December 2005 with a single string of lights and it gets bigger and better every year.
All the inflatable props take 45 minutes to blow up every morning and deflate every night by Paul – with the help of his son Aaron Bibby, 37.
People flock from all over the UK to catch a glimpse of his iconic display, which he creates in honor of Essex Air Ambulance and takes donations.
He said: “Last year I made $3,200 in charitable donations.”
Paul added: “There’s a bit of me that thinks I can do this last year – I feel so lost without Lynda at the moment. That’s for her.”
