All dirty, no folds.
Forget filler in your gnats or cheekbones – the most fashionable cosmetic procedure is nipple augmentation, also known as “designer nipples”, as see-through clothing and braless fashion remain in fashion.
Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Florence Pugh have been big proponents of the semi-bare fashion trend, constantly rocking see-through dresses, and recently, Charli XCX and Emma Corrin both bared their nipples on the red carpet. Meanwhile, Gen Z “brats” flaunt their underwear as outerwear when they hit the town or proudly show off their nipples through their T-shirts.
The influx of nipple wear has led some patients, like 30-year-old Annabelle Durrey, to consider fillers to improve the appearance of their nipples through shirts.
“I thought it was sex,” Durrey, a Brooklyn resident, told The Post.
She saw “how people would love to wear tops in the summer and show off their nipples”, but admitted she had “never had that”. So she consulted Upper East Side board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Norman Rowe for fillers, a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the nipple to improve projection.
Rowe told The Post that the surge in requests for the injections — which cost about $5,000 and typically include 1 cc of dermal filler per nipple — coincided with the popularity of topless clothing a few years ago, and the demand for nipple augmentation, either surgical or Non-invasive filler, only grown since then.
Similarly, Upper East Side plastic surgeon Dr. Anna Avaliani, who has been performing nipple augmentation since 2018, sees at least one patient a month seeking the procedure, with some even traveling across the country to visit her office.
Avaliani told The Post that Kylie Jenner, Lauren Sanchez and Kim Kardashian — who can forget the infamous SKIMS nipple bra? – have inspired women and some men to desire “strong, excited-looking nipples” for aesthetics.
Other situations where patients may want nipple fillers are more practical, such as after childbirth and breastfeeding or breast augmentation.
“Back then, a nipple was no longer something to hide, it was something to grow,” Rowe said. “Like your breasts, like your lips, like your cheeks.”
Kathleen Reyes, 38, opted for nipple fillers just a few months ago, telling The Post she was sick of wearing underwire bras and wanted to feel comfortable in her own skin. After the filler, she said, she felt more “free.”
Similarly, Durrey said she feels “super safe” after the injections and has even recommended the procedure to her friends.
“It was definitely worth it, one hundred percent,” she added.
